How to Create a Bathroom your Guests will Love!

04 Dec

As Christmas swiftly approaches, we’re thinking about the houseguests who will be coming to stay over the festive period. We therefore thought it would be useful to write an article about what touches you can add to a bathroom to make everyone feel at home. If we are to think aside from the basic things like making sure they have clean towels and enough loo roll, it got us thinking about the things that hosts can and should provide in guest bathrooms to make everyone’s stay comfortable and truly memorable.

Fresh towels

There is nothing quite like new fresh, fluffy towels to not only give a squeaky clean feel to the bathroom, but to add a bit of luxury as well. It doesn’t necessarily mean a whole set of new towels, a new hand towel or the newest towels you have, washed in a lovely fabric softener will do.

Toiletries

Somebody always forgets something so it’s a good idea to stock your drawers with the essentials – and maybe add a few extras like body cream or skincare products! This is a great opportunity to make use of those hotel freebies you’ve gathered from your recent travels, or splash out on a branded toiletry pack which are everywhere at this time of year. Our personal favourite is Rituals: luxurious, fragrant (and not too expensive!)

Fragrance

Fragrance in a bathroom helps to create a spa like environment and can easily be achieved with a scented candle or diffuser sticks. Our advice would be to avoid air fresheners and toilet ducks if you want to create a natural ambience!

Another important thing we recommend you do, is to air the room for at least 24 hours, especially if it’s a guest bathroom that isn’t regularly used.  There is nothing worse than a musty smell in any room!

Clear Storage Space

Remove any clutter or personal items that may have found their way into the bathroom, such as robes or toothbrushes. Make sure there’s sufficient space to store your guests’ toiletries, wash bags, brushes and makeup. Consider also providing hooks for clothes and towel rails for hanging towels. Good lighting and a mirror is also essential.

Bathrobes and slippers

If you really want to create a hotel like experience, the ultimate luxury in our view is to give your guests a bathrobe and slippers. If you have unused hotel or spa slippers, even better!

Privacy

Providing complete privacy is really important to ensure your guests are comfortable and relaxed in your home. A lock on the door is paramount to avoid any red faces around the breakfast table!!

Fresh Flowers or Plants

Finally to make the room feel fresh but homely, consider placing a plant or fresh flowers in the bathroom – we find that Orchids make excellent bathroom plants. This is just another little touch that your guests are sure to appreciate.
