Five things to consider when creating your Perfect Shower

Creating the perfect shower blog with BATHLINE Bathrooms

There are so many showering options available to homeowners these days that customers don’t know where to start when it comes to installing the perfect shower for themselves and their families.

In this blog we summarise what you should consider when designing your perfect shower, as well as giving you product ideas to help you navigate the many options that are available to you.

  1. Wetrooms

The first thing you’ll want to decide is whether you want a wetroom or a shower enclosure in your bathroom. In its truest sense a wetroom is exactly that; a room that gets wet! Most people these days opt for a shower panel to prevent water splashing everywhere. Semi frameless and frameless shower panels offer a streamlined look that create a modern shower with easy access. Check out these ultra-sleek designs from Crosswater and Flair Showers.

However a key trend in showering has been a move away from frameless glass that ‘disappears’ into the overall bathroom scheme, to one where the shower becomes a focal point. Black framed shower screens and panels are really popular at the moment, matched with black shower heads and valves. Check out Drench’s panels which make a bold style statement in any bathroom.

2. Shower Trays

Shower trays have also become a bit of a design statement! Gone are the days when they just came in white – now you can choose from a range of colours and textures to suit your bathroom scheme.  Install one which is raised to prevent water running beyond the shower, or one which is flush with the floor with a good fall towards the waste: either can be positioned in the centre of the tray or along the wall, like these ones from Crosswater and the Gemstone range at Flair.

3. Shower Enclosures

The traditional shower enclosure has evolved and improved over the years with cutting edge and modern designs. From sliding to hinged doors, recessed enclosures or those with corner entry, there are lots of designs to choose from – you just need to think about the best way to utilise your floor space.

Stay ahead of the game by choosing Crosswater’s Hush Technology – a super soft, whisper quiet door-closing mechanism which doesn’t bang closed like other shower enclosures.

4. The Shower itself

The power of water – whether it’s first thing in the morning to wake you up or last thing at night to help you unwind,  we all have individual tastes when it comes to how we want to shower. So the next thing to decide is how your shower is going to work. You can choose

  • a mixer shower valve operation, delivering precise thermostatic temperature control
  • a state of the art digital valve for high tech precision showering
  • or, opt for a simple electric shower which is easy to install and will not use your stored hot water.

Before you make your decision, our BATHLINE advisors will determine what sort of water system you have as this will influence which shower will work best in your home.

With an extensive range of outlet options from statement shower heads, handsets and body jets, our team will help you choose the showering brassware for the ultimate showering experience.

Shower heads are a defining feature and range from luxury rainfall and waterfall, to spa inspired illuminated styles, which can be recessed or fixed to the ceiling or wall. Here are some ideas from Crosswater, hansgrohe and Aqualisa.

Shower kits are a practical alternative to a fixed head, and present a simple and effective option for any shower or bath setting, but the adjustable riser rail means they’re great for family bathrooms where little people like to shower!

Then you have the question of colour! This will be influenced by your overall design scheme but choose between black, gold, brushed gold – the colours of the moment – and chrome or brushed chrome.  Check out the MPRO black showering range from Crosswater and the gold range from Aqualisa.

5. Valves

Not only do these determine how your shower will work, they complete the overall look of the shower. Recessed valves create a minimal look and are often paired with fixed matching shower heads, exposed valves work particularly well when creating a traditional design statement, and at the other end of the spectrum you could opt for a modern, ultra sleek touch button valve.
