6 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks blog from BATHLINE Bathrooms

Bathrooms can become pretty grubby and gross and unless you enjoy scrubbing, you’ll most likely dread the prospect of getting your bathroom into a sparkly, clean condition again. It doesn’t have to be such a headache though with these handy hacks:

  1. CLEANING THE SHOWER

For shiny, fresh shower heads, pour some white vinegar into a plastic bag and soak the shower head overnight. Rinse it off and replace the following morning. If you have plastic shower curtains, these can go in the washing machine with your towels, using your normal washing detergent. For glass panel doors, mixing up a paste of baking soda and white vinegar works a treat. Leave it to settle for about one hour and then remove with a damp microfibre cloth. The glass can then be buffed with a dry cloth, leaving it looking as good as new.

Use a grout brush and bleach to thoroughly clean your bathroom tiles.

  1. Cleaning the Grout

Grout can become discoloured and harbour some unpleasant bacteria. Get yourself a grout brush and dip it in bleach for getting to those stained and grubby patches. Rinse the grout thoroughly and remember to keep the window open to ventilate the room. Grout should ideally be resealed every 6 months to keep the moisture and dirt at bay.

  1. Cleaning the Tiles

This is where you can let steam do some of the dirty work for you to save you scrubbing on your hands and knees. Spray an all-purpose cleaner on the walls and ceiling (or anywhere you have tiles) and then turn the shower on to run very hot for 5 minutes or until lots of steam builds up. Switch off the water and leave the room, closing the door behind you. Leave the room for about 20 minutes for the steam and cleaning product to get acquainted, then return with a dry microfibre cloth to wipe the surfaces down.

  1. Cleaning the Toilet

The easiest toilets to clean are wall-hanging toilets that are easier to access. Try pouring a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl, leave for a few minutes, rub with a bowl brush and flush. If you’re in a hard water area and suffer with constant mineral deposit build-up, try a damp pumice stone to remove the annoying accumulation. For those small crevices where goodness knows what is lurking, a small handheld pressure washer will save you getting down and dirty, for example where the hinges meet the seat.

  1. Cleaning the Sink and Taps

This is another area where white vinegar and baking soda come in handy. Use it to pour down the drain and then run hot water to clear it away. An easy thing to use effectively on the taps are disposable antibacterial wipes – just remember not to flush them down the toilet. Did you know that there’s another handy use for your dental floss too? Floss is perfect for cleaning those grubby tight spaces between the taps and where they meet the sink.

  1. Sick of a Slippery Soap Dish?

A great trick for avoiding that annoying slimy soap accumulation or sticking issues is to apply a little baby oil onto the soap dish before putting a fresh bar of soap into it.
