Adding Some Feminine Touches to your Bathroom

25 Apr

Are you suffering from a bland bathroom? Is the décor looking a bit too gender neutral for you? Then it’s time to add some softening feminine touches and turn your bathroom into a haven of indulgent girly-ness, especially if you’re lucky enough to have your very own bathroom. Here are some great ideas for bathroom suites Ireland that can also be applied to any room in the house:

Choice of Colour

Many contemporary bathroom suites are a bright, shiny white. While this is the best colour for looking hygienic and clean, it can sometimes feel a little cold and clinical. You’ll want to introduce some soft, muted colours such as creams or pastels into the décor. If you prefer more of a statement, then nothing says feminine like a vibrant hot pink.

You can add in mats, towels and accessories or even consider repainting or retiling. Don’t be afraid to add in metallics, gilt, marble or crystal. While these might seem a little on the cool spectrum, they do offer fantastic contrast and that decorative flair that gives a room a more feminine feel.

Patterns

Feminine patterns are another way to soften the feel of a bathroom. These tend to include patterns that are more decorative, such as florals, damasks, paisley and botanical themes. Male patterns tend to be much more geometrical, but there’s no reason why you can’t introduce such patterning if it’s what you like. Polka dots are a small geometric pattern that work well in a feminine décor design.

Textures

If you’ve not considered texture before, you’ll be surprised at how big a part it plays in the ambience of a room. A clever mix of textures will really set the scene, for example combining hard and soft, matte and glossy, smooth with rough. Some materials you can choose for adding a feminine feel include silk, velvet, fresh cotton, linen or chenille. Creating an attractive window dressing could be one way of incorporating these fabrics, surrounding an existing roller blind if you still want to maintain that level of privacy.

Furniture

Bathroom furniture doesn’t just have to be about function, there’s plenty of feminine fun to be had in the details. Think about including decorative touches on cabinet handles for example. Soften them up by using ornate carved designs. Why not hang a mirror with a grand flourishing surround? For a really girly vintage look, add a pretty sink skirt. Not only will this instantly add texture and softness but it’s also a great way to hide the clutter of shampoo bottles and cleaning products.

Shapes

Feminine aesthetics are easily achieved simply by thinking about the shapes of furniture and accessories. Instead of hard lines and sharp corners, think about rounded, softer shapes. You don’t need to change every detail in your bathroom, remember that stunning décor is also about balance and contrast. However, with the simple introduction of a few decorative pieces and some softer shapes, you’ll achieve real feminine flair. This can be achieved with accessories, having a rounded sink and taps or even with your lighting fixtures.
